2. Check your Virtual Memory Settings

  • While in the same window, left-click on the ‘Advanced’ Tab
  • Then left-click on ‘Change’ in the Virtual Memory Section

  • Then you will want to make sure that it is set to ‘System managed size’
  • If you are changing it to ‘System managed size’ you will then need to left-click ‘Set’ in order to apply the settings, then left-click ‘OK’ to proceed.

  • Left-Click ‘Apply’ then ‘OK’ on the Perfromance Options Window
  • Left-Click ‘Apply then ‘OK’ on the ‘Systems Properties’ Window

 

3. Uninstall Unwanted Applications

  • With the ‘Control Panel’ still open, left-click on ‘Add or Remove Programs’

  • Go through the list and find programs that are not often used, or not necessary.
  • Left-Click on a program name, then click remove and follow the prompts:
    • If you do not know what the program is, do not remove it without consulting someone
    • If the program is not needed or often used, you will have to weigh its importance vs. speed
    • Programs that stay resident in memory, such as instant messangers, weather monitors and notifiers will all use space and memory.

  • When finished Click the X in the upper right hand corner to exit
  • Click the X in the upper hand corner of Control Panel to exit back to the desktop
  • Reboot your computer

4. Download, Install and Run CCleaner
